The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance. He will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.” -Psalm 58:10

Vengeance is Mine, Says the Lord

The recent legislation in the state of New York which allows for late term abortions, up to the very birth of the child, is a chilling wake up call concerning the depth of depravity and darkness which engulfs our nation. Several other states have now followed suit with similar legislation. This is particularly shocking when we realize that the majority of millennials now view abortion as murder and therefore unjust. But still the death culture continues unabated. We are a bloodthirsty nation, my friends.
Fifty-five million people die every year in our world while another forty-three million babies are aborted annually around the world. More black babies are aborted in New York City than live births. Indeed Margaret Sanger’s vision of eugenics, of eliminating the “undesirable” black race seems to be winning the day. More black babies are aborted in one year that all the lynchings of black people in the dark days of Jim Crow.

Roe v. Wade legalized abortion forty-six years ago and we are no closer now to its eradication. Indeed, the recent legislation in New York and the cheering of that wicked legislation’s proponents shows us how the death culture is doubling down on its thirst for blood. Most pro abortion people no longer seek to hide the fact that the “fetus”, as they have called the baby in the womb, is a human being. They simply say that the women’s legal rights trump those of the unborn.

The evil glee of the abortionist and his minions has been prominently on display in recent days, which, of course, begs a most vital question-what does God think of all this and what is He aiming to do about it?

We know God clearly says that of those who shed innocent blood, their blood will be required of them (Genesis 9:6). We know that children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward, that a man with a whole lot of children is a blessed man indeed (Psalm 127:3-5). We know that God forms our inward parts in our mother’s womb, that we all are fearfully and wonderfully made, that God has seen our unformed substance (Psalm 139:14-16). We know that we all are made in the image of God and thus have unparalleled worth and dignity, that there are no mistakes with the crown of God’s creation (Genesis 1:27).

We also know that God takes no pleasure in wickedness, that no evil dwells with Him, that the boastful shall never stand before Him, that the Lord hates all who do iniquity, that He destroys all who speak falsehood, that the Lord abhors or hates with the utmost hatred, the man of bloodshed and deceit (Psalm 5:4-6). We also know that wicked men have venom like the venom of serpents, like that of a deaf cobra. We know they weigh out the violence of their hands. And we know, consequently, that the righteous man will rejoice when he sees the vengeance. He gladly, rejoicingly will wash his own feet in the blood of the wicked (Psalm 58). King David puts God’s view of the loathsome murderer in graphic terms. “Do I not hate those who hate Thee, O Lord. Do I not loathe those who rise up against Thee. I hate them with the utmost hatred. They have become my enemies,” (Psalm 139:21,22). And we know that our Lord is a jealous and avenging God, that He is avenging and wrathful, that He takes vengeance on His adversaries, that He reserves wrath for His enemies. And while He is slow to anger and great in power, He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. His way is in whirlwind and storm. He makes clouds the dust of His feet. He rebukes the sea and makes it dry (Nahum 1:2-4).

So, what does God think of the abortionist? He hates him with the utmost hatred. God’s wrath is mounting up against him every day he lives in this world. He would be far better off dying in his sleep as a thirty year old abortionist, than live to the age of eighty while he continued another fifty years to ply his evil trade. Why? Because with every murder his judgment is further mounting up. Why? Because he refused to repent of his wicked and murderous life, and God is holy and just. God will not “look the other way.”

Those faithful warriors who stood for years before the abortuaries of their towns, urging pregnant women and their cowardly boy friends or husbands, to not go through with it, to choose life for their babies, who bore the threats of physical harm by the murderers and their accomplices, who had little to no support from their fellow church members, will one day rejoice when they see the vengeance of the Lord come raining down on the recalcitrant, murderous, heartless mothers and fathers who had their babies ripped from their wombs and thrown, as it were, on an ash heap. God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. The righteous will inherit the land but the wicked will be cut off. The righteous will indeed rejoice when he sees the vengeance. He will rejoice when he washes his feet in the blood of wicked men who shed innocent blood.

But we must also remember that God is patient and filled with lovingkindness to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. He will hear our cry and save us.

We are all murderers, liars, thieves, and fornicators at some point in our lives, but if you are in Christ Jesus, then He came to you and cleansed you. He took you from the miry clay of your certain and terrifying expectation of judgment and placed you on a solid rock, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. He took away your sin. He gave you a new heart which loves God and hates sin. He gave you His Holy Spirit to indwell and empower you. You are not the same person. You are a new creation in Christ Jesus. He has taken your sins away as far as the east is from the west.

He has done that for you, and He can do that too, my friends, for anyone who sees his need and runs to Jesus Christ for refuge. There is hope for the abortionist. There is hope for the mother or father who have murdered their own flesh and blood. Jesus is ready, quick, and able to save. This salvation comes, however, only by bowing the knee to King Jesus, by acknowledging that He is the Lord and you are absolutely nothing. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.
